I know I’m not alone when I say that Great Blue Herons are among my favorite birds. There is something so iconic about them standing tall along the edge of the marsh or bent over a stream, silent and motionless while waiting for their dinner to swim by. In the fall we have many, many young herons stop to feed here before heading south but some remain all winter long.

Printed on archival Epson matter paper this print is from one of my watercolors and part of a larger series I did featuring portrait heads of herons common to our area. The image area is approximately 7.5 x 9″ and is printed on an 8.5 x 11″ paper so there is plenty of room for matting. Great Blue Herons are among my favorite subjects and this one is one of the more popular images I have painted over the years.
