I love painting these lovely and elegant Great Blue Herons and I especially like doing their portraits. This one has a lovely green background, reminiscent of their days in the fading marshes at the end of the summer. Whether they are standing still or silently stalking, these birds have captured the imagination of many, many people over time and have become an iconic image for our area.

Printed on archival Epson matter paper this print is from one of my watercolors and part of a larger series I did featuring portrait heads of herons common to our area. The image area is approximately 7.5 x 9″ and is printed on an 8.5 x 11″ paper so there is plenty of room for matting. Great Blue Herons are among my favorite subjects and this one is one of the more popular images I have painted over the years.
